MeCellosic acid (MCA)

MeCellosic acid (MCA) is oxidized methyl nanocellulose showing 47 mN/m surface tension at 1% solution.  It is soluble to water and organic solvents such as ethanol and fluidic due to significantly reduced dimensions and the presence of carboxylic acids.  Thus, it can be sprayed for edible coating in food or pharmaceutical packaging.

Specifications of MCA

  • Appearance: colorless or pale yellow hydrogels
  • Solubility: soluble to water and ethanol
  • Viscosity: 0.6 cP for 5% MCA  in water
  • Surface tension: 47 mN/m for 1% MCA in water

Potential Applications: surfactants in personal care products, metal removal in water treatments, packaging for food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
