Properties of Oligosaccharides
- Particle size: 10-100 nm for nanocellulose; <5 nm (<DP 10) for oligosaccharides.
- Most oligosaccharides are water‑soluble and insoluble in organic solvents, with the exception of
ethylated oligosaccharides, ECO.
- Ethyl cello oligosacchardies (ECO) exhibits dual solubility, dissolving in both aqueous and organic
solvent systems, which imparts amphiphilic character.
- Chitosan oligosaccharides (CHO) contains primary amine groups, rendering it cationic
under acidic conditions and chemically unstable at neutral or basic pH due to reactions with reducing sugars.
